Ralph Slatton is professor in charge of printmaking at East Tennessee State University. He works chiefly with the intaglio printmaking processes of aquatint and line etch. His images can be seen in institutions around the world, including the Taiwan Museum of Art and the Taichun Museum. Slatton enjoys restoring old print presses and finds machinery and tools to be almost as engaging as the images. Slatton hold the BFA and MA degrees from Arkansas State University and the MFA from the University of Iowa. Much of his influences are derived from studying animal imagery in both sacred and artistic venues. His work represents a look into the human psyche in the disguises of masks or animal narrative. Slatton currently resides in Applachia, where he teaches full time and enjoys an occaional and unavoidable stroll in the mountains.
